Bela, our Finnsailer 34

There are boats, and then there is Bela. A Finnsailer 34 built in Finland with the precision and care typical of Nordic yards. From the moment you see her on the pontoon she shows exactly what she is: solid, elegant and with the warmth that only well-crafted wood can give.

Her roughly 11 metres give her an imposing but manageable presence, and her lines —designed by naval architect Hans Groop— strike the perfect balance between speed, stability and character.

The hull is hand-laid fibreglass, a technique that gives far greater strength than mass production. Her lead ballast keel —denser and more effective than conventional iron— gives her formidable stability. This boat doesn’t heel over easily. She inspires confidence from the first moment, whether you are a student or have years at sea.

The self-draining centre cockpit is generous and comfortable for the whole crew. With an Edson steering pedestal —a benchmark on quality yachts— and a folding cockpit table, it is where you run the boat with full control. There is room for everyone, and nobody treads on anyone. And the views from here are unbeatable: the open horizon, the bow cutting through the blue Mediterranean.

Hans Groop’s design for the Finnsailer 34 is a benchmark of Nordic naval architecture. Her layout makes the most of every centimetre to offer accommodation unusual for her length, while always behaving nobly in any sea state. Go down the companionway and the first glance says it all: mahogany everywhere. Warm, alive, with that unmistakable smell of well-kept boats. Bela is not a plastic yacht with four seats. She is a lived-in space, designed to make life on board a pleasure.

The saloon is surprisingly roomy and bright, thanks to its long aluminium-framed windows. The upholstered settees on both sides invite you to relax between manoeuvres, and the central table is perfect for going over charts, sharing a meal or simply enjoying the passage. The mahogany covering walls, floor and ceiling is not just decoration: it is the signature of high-end Nordic build, moisture-resistant and beautiful.

The galley —to port— is roomy and practical. Hob, fridge, hot water… everything you need to prepare a good lunch between anchorages.

There are three cabins, with 6 to 7 berths depending on the layout. The classic V-berth forward is ideal for two. The aft cabin offers extra privacy with its own washbasin. And the saloon can sleep up to 3 more when it is time to rest. Everything meticulously kept, ready for you to sleep on board with the sea rocking you.

The central heads is compact but very well thought out: washbasin, shower, WC and hot water. Because adventure does not have to give up the basic comforts.

Bela combines the nobility of a classic with the safety and precision of modern technology. The chart table, to starboard next to the companionway, brings all the electronics together in a well-organised, accessible space.

Autopilot, GPS chart plotter, fixed VHF and full wind, speed and depth instruments: all up to date and ready. No obsolete equipment. Bela’s electronics are continuously checked and renewed so that you always sail with the best tools at hand.

The inboard diesel starts first time and gives all the power needed for harbour manoeuvres or making way on windless days. A 200-litre fuel tank for long passages, and a 150-litre fresh water system.

Safety is not negotiable on board: full equipment, approved signalling and every system in perfect working order. We go to sea to enjoy it, and that starts with being well prepared.
