At Escuela Náutica Altair we manage this service with the utmost discretion and professionalism. We take care of everything: the permits with the Maritime Authority to navigate to the designated area (normally about 1.5 nautical miles, around 30 minutes of sailing).

Port Garraf offers an intimate and natural setting, 30 minutes from Barcelona, perfectly accessible from all of Catalonia. While other companies operate from crowded ports (Port Olímpic), we conduct ceremonies in a secluded spot within Garraf Natural Park. For a farewell of this nature, the setting matters as much as the service.

Permit management: We request the authorisation from the Maritime Authority in Barcelona on your behalf.
Ceremony day: The family arrives at Port Garraf (Sitges). We set sail on our boat.
Navigation: We sail about 30 minutes to the area authorised by the Maritime Authority.
At Altair, we guarantee the complete legality of our ceremonies. We are authorised by the Maritime Authority specifically for the deposition of urns at sea, strictly complying with Law 14/2010 on Maritime Navigation. We conduct departures in areas permitted by the Maritime Authority with our legally registered vessel. We handle all necessary documentation and certificates so you only have to worry about what matters most: the farewell.
It is not permitted to throw any non-biodegradable material into the sea together with the ashes. If an urn is used, it must be a certified biodegradable urn, specifically designed to dissolve in water without environmental impact. We can advise you on biodegradable urn suppliers if needed.
Intimate Ceremony: Private departure on our boat (maximum 11 family members) to guarantee a personal and private atmosphere.
Legal Compliance: We process the necessary permits with the Maritime Authority to navigate to the authorised scattering area.
Total Discretion: The captain will remain in the background, allowing the family to have all the time and space they need.
Biodegradable Urns: We can advise you on the use of urns specifically designed to dissolve in water without environmental impact.

The boat can accommodate a maximum of 11 family members in addition to the skipper. It is a private departure: no other people outside the family are on board.
You will need the cremation certificate issued by the funeral home and the urn certificate confirming it is biodegradable. We handle all permit management with the Maritime Authority.
Basic (350€): essentials — private departure, legal coordination, GPS certificate. Complete (550€): + professional photography, floral arrangement, and candles. Premium (750€): + everything above + light buffet after and framed certificate.
Yes. You can bring a device with music or connect it on board. The skipper handles the navigation and gives you all the space you need.
Yes. We understand that it is not always possible for the family to be present. We also offer a ceremony modality without family on board. Contact us.
We depart from Port Garraf, in Sitges (Barcelona). It is a privileged enclave within the Natural Park, much more intimate than large urban ports. Parking is available (free in winter, paid Blue Zone in spring/summer) close to the port.
365 days a year, weather conditions permitting. In case of bad weather, we agree on a new date at no extra cost.
Yes. We understand that pets are part of the family. We offer the same service to scatter the ashes of dogs, cats and other companion animals at sea, with full discretion and respect.
