Two stages, one surveyor
Start with the remote one: you do the visit guided by my app. If the boat passes, I go in person to cover what a camera cannot see.
The boat afloat
- Interior: bilge, keel bolts, damp, bulkheads, seacocks and gas.
- Deck: cracks around fittings, soft spots and hatches.
- Mast and rigging: terminals, mast step and chainplates.
- Electrics: panel, batteries and equipment working.
- Engine in port: cold start, idle, working revs, ahead and astern, smoke, leaks and stern gland.
- Papers, hull number and safety equipment.

Frequently asked questions
How does the remote inspection work?
You pay here and get the link to my app by email. When you go to see the boat, you open it on your phone and it guides you area by area: what to check, which photo or video to take and how. The photos and videos come to me. I review them and within 72 hours send you a report with what I have seen, what worries me and what to check before closing the purchase.
Who is it for?
For anyone going to see a boat far from Barcelona, or abroad, who wants a surveyor's opinion without paying for the surveyor's travel. You go to the boat; I inspect it remotely from what you send through the app.
What does it cover and what not?
It covers the boat afloat: interior, deck, mast and rigging, electrics, papers and the engine in port (cold start, idle, working revs, ahead and astern). It does not include the underwater hull on the hard, which needs hygrometer moisture readings, or a sea trial. Those two are the second stage, the on-site survey.
If I then want the on-site survey, is what I paid deducted?
Yes. If you then book the on-site survey (haul-out and sea trial), we deduct what you paid for the remote inspection. Travel expenses are quoted separately and are not part of the deduction.
Do I have to go to the boat myself?
Yes: you do the visit, or someone you trust, guided by my app. No boat knowledge needed: the app tells you what to check and how to photograph it. Better not to let the seller do it. I do not travel, which is why it is cheaper.
How long does the report take?
Up to 72 hours from when you press «Send to Ricard» with all the material. If a photo is missing or unclear, we ask for it by email and the clock starts again when you upload it.
What if there is poor mobile coverage in the marina?
Photos and videos upload in chunks: if it drops, it resumes where it stopped. You can take the photos on board and upload them later from home on wifi.
The material is reviewed by Ricard Prehn, engineer, yachtmaster and marine surveyor with more than 25 years of experience. Questions? Message us on WhatsApp at +34 634 488 822.
